Self Compassion

"One day I looked at something in myself that I had been avoiding because it was too painful. Yet once I did, I had an unexpected surprise. Rather than self-hatred, I was flooded with compassion for myself because I realized the pain necessary to develop that coping mechanism to begin with."
- Marianne Williamson

What is self-compassion?

Self-compassion simply means showing compassion to one's self in despite feelings of inadequacy, personal missteps, frustration or general pain. Dr. Kristin Neff, author of the book, Self Compassion, defines this practice as having three main components - self-kindness, a sense of common humanity, and mindfulness.
